Packaging:
The applicator is a standard doe foot wand, however, as with the Matt(e) Hughes minis, application can be messy as there’s not a lot of suction to keep the product from over loading on the wand. You do get a generous 1.5ml in these minis though (half of the full size 3ml).
Colour & Pigmentation:
The colours in the Star Studded Eight set are a good mix of nudes and brights and darks as well as two shimmery mattes that are an exclusive preview for Spring 2018 and not yet available to buy by themselves.
Perla – pale dusty pink
Sogno – warm rose (new)
Patina – dusty rose
Patina Shimmer – dusty rose with shimmer (new)
Aria – magenta plum
Rubino – beet red
Beso Shimmer – true red with shimmer (new)
Chianti – deep plum
My favourites shades in this set were Sogno, Patina (of course) and surprisingly Beso Shimmer!
My least favourite was again Perla as it’s too light and Chianti was a bit too dark for my liking.
Pigmentation wise, they were all of good coverage but the shades “Chianti” and “Rubino” were slightly uneven and patchy as you can see in the lip swatches above.
Texture-wise, they were a lovely moussey consistency (which works better for my lip skin type) with enough slip to apply effortlessly and smooth.
Finish:
These liquid lipsticks dry matte with an ever-so-slight stickiness. These also dry darker than when first applied.
Scent:
These smell sweet, kind of like cake batter or icing.
Longevity:
As the name suggests these lipsticks “Stay All Day”; on average when I’ve worn these, they can last up to 6 hours+ without budging (less when eating oily foods). The formula feels slightly drying and cracks after about 2 hours, but again, not in the same way the Kylie ones do and I found Patina to be the least “cracky”.
Price:
The price of this Star Studded Eight set is £45 so it’s not cheap but would make a great gift, whereas the trio sets are £20 so more affordable.
The Star Studded Eight works out £5.63 per lipstick and the trios work out £6.67 each (full size liquid lipsticks are £16).
Available at Stila UK, Boots, Cult Beauty, and Beauty Bay.
Overall rating:
As always, I think the colour ranges are great in these mini sets if you wanted to try out the brand, but also in these particular Stila sets, the 1.5ml is a generous amount, considering the full size is only 3ml.
The shade range available is quite wearable for darker lips like mine as they dry a bit darker than when first applied and most of the shades’ textures were consistently creamy and comfortable.
They also last a pretty long time (despite slight cracking) so I would give this star studded eight set a 4 out of
